FAQ
Fair questions, straight answers.
The product
What is Flexbound?
Flexbound is a workout notebook app for iOS. You write training and food notes in your own words; the app parses them into structured sets, meals, and bodyweight data without ever rewriting your raw entry. Deterministic, cited math handles progression, macros, and TDEE. AI only writes and explains.
How is this different from Strong, Hevy, or MacroFactor?
Two ways. First, Flexbound starts with free text you write, not forms you fill. Second, our methodology is published as versioned rules citing peer-reviewed research, and AI is architecturally banned from producing numbers. We document every formula on the site, including its limits.
When does Flexbound launch, and on what platforms?
Flexbound is in development for iOS, opening on TestFlight first. Email us to join the early-access list. Android is not committed yet; tell us if you want it.
Does the app work offline?
Yes. Flexbound is local-first: the notebook, parsing, and calculators run on your device with zero configured accounts. Signing in adds backup, sync, and the cloud-assisted Pro features.
Does Flexbound work for home training?
Yes. You declare where you train and exactly what equipment you own: dumbbells, kettlebell, bands, a secure band anchor, a pull-up bar, a bench or box, or nothing. Plans draw only from movements your equipment can perform, session length is treated as a hard budget, and honest limitation notes appear when a pattern such as vertical pulling is not trainable with your setup.
How long do my workouts need to be?
As long as you actually have. Session length is an onboarding question, and the planner budgets each day to fit: a 30-minute plan trims accessories and shortens accessory rest while protecting the priority compounds, rather than cramming a 60-minute session into half the time.
The AI boundary
Does AI calculate my calories or training numbers?
No. Calories, macros, TDEE, estimated 1RM, volume, and progression come from versioned deterministic calculators grounded in peer-reviewed research. AI may only rephrase and explain results the math already produced. If AI prose introduces a number the calculators did not produce, the app discards the prose.
What does AI actually do in Flexbound?
Four things: rephrase a completed weekly review, explain a completed workout plan without changing it, draft a parse for ambiguous journal lines (which you confirm), and summarize research for human methodology review. It cannot approve rules, set targets, or touch your data.
Is my journal used to train AI models?
No. Your journal content is not used for third-party advertising or model training. Cloud AI features are consent-gated, and the privacy policy spells out exactly which subprocessors see what.
Free vs Pro
What does free include?
The notebook, forever: unlimited raw journaling, deterministic workout parsing, food notes, bodyweight tracking, and backup/restore/sync. Free history is retained for 30 days of confirmed records (with warnings and full export before any purge).
What does Pro add?
Sourced calorie and macro estimates (USDA and Open Food Facts first), adaptive TDEE, weekly reviews, workout plans, deload and pain-flag signals, saved meals, and unlimited history.
How much will Pro cost?
Pricing will be announced at launch. TestFlight testers hear first. The free tier is not a trial; the notebook stays free.
Your data
Can I export my data?
Yes. The full JSON export includes raw entries, confirmed structure, corrections, and history. Imports work too, including backups from before the app was renamed to Flexbound.
Can I delete my account and data?
Yes, from inside the app: deletion removes remote data and the account, then clears the device. No email ping-pong required.
Is Flexbound medical advice?
No. Flexbound provides fitness tracking and nutrition estimates, not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Persistent pain, disordered-eating risk, or health conditions belong with qualified professionals. The app is built to say so rather than coach past its depth.
